Gifts of stock or appreciated securities allow you to help Episcopal Relief and Development while benefiting from an income tax deduction. It can also help you avoid paying capital gains or estate tax. Recent congressional legislation is beneficial to donors contributing investments such as stocks or bonds that have appreciated in value. To make a gift of securities, follow the steps below:

• To transfer stock- If you would like to make a stock gift, first call ERD at 1-800-334-7626 ext. 5129 for our account and DTC numbers to send an electronic transfer of your stock. Once you have done this, you or your broker must write a letter to ERD granting us permission to transfer your stock. This letter must include the name of stock, number of shares and approximate dollar amount and should be sent by you or your broker. Mail this letter to the attention of Teresa Franco, Donor Associate, to the below address.

• To mail a security certificate- If you are sending an actual security certificate, please write a letter to ERD giving us permission to transfer the ownership of certificates. Either you or your broker may write this letter. Before mailing the actual certificate(s), be sure to sign each one exactly how your name appears on the document. Make sure to have a Signature Guarantee to endorse the transfer by asking your bank to stamp a medallion signature certification ensuring the authenticity of your signature. Next, mail the certificate(s) to ERD. The certificate must be accompanied by a stock power letter (one for each certificate) giving ERD ownership of the certificate. Please mail a copy of the original letter which gives ERD permission to transfer the certificate, along with the certificate and stock power letter. Mail your certificate, stock power letter and original letter to the address below to the attention of Teresa Franco, Donor Associate.
