Brian Sellers-Petersen Appointed Director of Church Engagement Programs

Rob Radtke, President of Episcopal Relief & Development, appointed Brian Sellers-Petersen Director of Church Engagement Programs, effective January 1, 2009. In this position, from his base in Seattle, Washington, Sellers-Petersen will be responsible for developing the agency’s church-based programming and overseeing Episcopal Relief & Development’s initiatives with Episcopal churches, dioceses, schools, seminaries and organizations in the United States.

“As Episcopal Relief & Development shapes its next strategic plan, it is abundantly clear that Church Engagement Programs will be a priority,” said Radtke. “Accordingly, I have decided to move quickly and appoint Brian to this critical position so that he can have a role in shaping this important work.”

Episcopal Relief & Development launched its strategic planning process last spring and has been consulting widely throughout the Episcopal Church about key priorities and goals for the organization through 2012. The final plan is still in development and will be approved in the coming months. The plan builds on the success of the recent branding campaign and will strengthen Episcopal Relief & Development as it works to carry out its mission to heal a hurting world.

Church engagement activities will include the development of programs that help Episcopalians partner with Episcopal Relief & Development to alleviate suffering around the world and fulfill their baptismal covenant to respect the dignity of every human being.

Sellers-Petersen brings over 25 years of experience with the Episcopal Church in various international relief and development roles to his new position. Prior to his new appointment, Sellers-Petersen held the position of Director of West Coast Operations and Senior Major Gift Officer for the Northwest U.S. at Episcopal Relief & Development. Before joining the agency, Sellers-Petersen served in a variety of positions with World Vision Inc., including Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director of Church Relations.

“Brian is perfect for this position,” says the Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel, Bishop of Olympia. “We have worked together in the past in connecting our diocese with the ministry of Episcopal Relief & Development and I look forward to continuing this ministry as he takes on this new role.”
