Act Out: Empowering Youth to Heal a Hurting World

Act Out is an experiential educational program for middle and high school students that brings the needs and hopes of the world together with the lives of youth, in a context framed by liturgy and filled with prophetic stories of Scripture.  Below you will find a methodology statement of the program, three thematic modules on Malaria, Clean Water and Sanitation, and Hunger and Economic Opportunity.  Each module is structured to conform to a 24-hour lock-in/retreat timeline, but is modifiable for other uses, such as weekly youth group meetings, camp programs or whatever else you can imagine!

Rita Mosquito: A Children's Program on Malaria

Rita Mosquito is a three-lesson curriculum designed to introduce children and youth to malaria and how it’s prevented, and empower them to participate in the NetsforLife® Inspiration Fund. This fund is a church-wide campaign inspiring Episcopalians to help fight the spread of malaria by increasing awareness and raising $5 million for NetsforLife®, a program partnership serving communities in 17 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

These materials are flexible, and you are encouraged to use all or part of them as best suits your parish, school or group. Lesson 1 is geared more toward young children, but Lesson 2 and Lesson 3 have been adapted for older youth. Lesson 3 also includes a book written for middle and high school youth.
