Web Series Feature Partners in Nicaragua and Friends in Washington

December 15, 2009

The December installments of the two popular web series, Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development and Power of Partnerships, are now available online. Each month, these series highlight the importance of partners and supporters in furthering the agency’s mission to help those living in poverty and disease worldwide.

Around the world, 6,000 children die every day as a result of water-related diseases. This month’s Power of Partnerships illustrates the impact of providing clean water and sanitation for communities in need. In partnership with local organization El Porvenir, Episcopal Relief & Development is providing access to clean water, adequate sanitation and education about basic health and hygiene – transforming the lives of residents in over a dozen villages in rural Nicaragua.

Clean water is also the topic for this year’s final installment of Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development. The article features the work being done by Women of the World (WOW), a committee at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Kirkland, Washington. By holding a creative fundraising event called “St. John’s After Dark: Turning Wine Into Water,” the women of WOW have raised more than half of the money they’ll need to purchase a community well through the Gifts for Life catalog. This story is a wonderful example of innovative ways to engage a church in Episcopal Relief & Development’s work.
