United States
Episcopal Relief & Development’s US Disaster Program inspires, connects and equips leaders in the Episcopal Church to prepare for all human-made and natural disasters that might affect their communities.
The program's Disaster Preparedness Initiative offers training and support to disaster coordinators, provides tools and resources for preparedness planning and organizes volunteers through the Ready to Serve database.
The US Disaster Program also works to alleviate the impact of crises on affected communities, and help vulnerable people make a full and sustained recovery.
Responding to Disasters and Rebuilding Communities
- Supporting survivors and caregivers in areas impacted by disasters through local Episcopal dioceses and partner organizations; projects have included using volunteers to rebuild homes, helping survivors navigate federal financial assistance processes, and providing direct financial support to the most vulnerable
- Working with targeted dioceses to improve their preparedness and mitigate the impact of disasters by providing trainings and tools, and assisting with disaster planning
- Managing a volunteer database, “Ready to Serve”, which local disaster responders can use to recruit help for relief and recovery projects
- Training disaster coordinators and supporting increased communication and networking with and between dioceses, as well as with other ecumenical and secular organizations
