Southeast Dioceses Affected by Flooding
Episcopal Relief & Development has been in contact with the Diocese of Atlanta and is ready to assist people affected by severe flooding as needed.
The USA Disaster Preparedness and Response staff was in touch with the Diocese of Atlanta and was waiting to receive an update. Contact was also made with the Diocese of East Tennessee, where no members were known to have suffered harm.
The flooding, which has affected several states, has killed 10 people and caused an estimated $250 million in damage. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue issued a state of emergency for 17 counties and has asked President Barack Obama for an emergency federal disaster declaration.
