The Rt. Rev. Robert J. O'Neill (Colorado)

The Rt. Rev. Robert J. O'Neill serves as Chair of Episcopal Relief & Development’s Board of Directors.  He is the 10th Bishop of the Diocese of Colorado. He was elected Colorado’s Bishop Coadjutor on June 21, 2003 and was consecrated on October 4, 2003.

Prior to coming to Colorado, Bishop O’Neill was Rector of the Parish of the Epiphany in Winchester, MA. He currently serves as an Honorary Chair of the Three Bishop’s Fund for Haiti, and for five years he has served as President of El Hogar Ministries, Inc. Bishop O’Neill was extensively involved in the planning and development of the Barbara Harris Camp and Conference Center for the Diocese of Massachusetts. He served as Vice President and Co-President of the Massachusetts Episcopal Clergy Association, was a mentor for the diocesan Outward Bound programs, and helped establish the Diocesan Youth Leadership Academy.

Bishop O’Neill was ordained a transitional Deacon in June 1982 and ordained Priest in December 1982 at St. John’s Cathedral, Denver. He served for ten years as Canon Educator where he designed and implemented a comprehensive educational program for adults, teenagers and children. He also served as Chaplain at Children’s Hospital.

Bishop O’Neill received his BA from Texas Christian University and his MDiv from the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University. Bishop O’Neill is married to Virginia Ann Lughes. They have three grown children.
