Jordan

Jordan faces the ongoing challenge of inadequate water supply and, unlike most of its neighboring countries, lacks the valuable natural resource of oil. The unemployment rate stands at 30%. A third of the population still lives in poverty.

Episcopal Relief & Development is partnering with the Jofeh Rehabilitation Center (an affiliate of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem's Holy Land Institute for the Deaf) in the Jordan Valley. The area is home to several of the country’s most impoverished communities. The center provides outstanding rehabilitation, education, vocational training and other services for deaf, blind and physically and mentally challenged individuals.

Creating Economic Opportunities and Strengthening Communities

  • Training in carpet weaving, tailoring, sewing, woodworking and printing helps disabled young people gain valuable job skills so they can support themselves and their families. Volunteer artisans provide training in various crafts.

  • Micro-finance opportunities and small business management training allow people to start small businesses.

  • A home-based production program teaches mentally challenged students to grow and care for small potted plants.

Episcopal Relief & Development uses your financial gifts in the most effective ways possible to serve and support people suffering worldwide. More information
