Episcopal Relief & Development's Commitment

An unyielding commitment toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) challenge us to fulfill our mandate, found in the words of Jesus in Matthew 25. In this passage, Jesus portrayed himself as a person suffering from the conditions associated with poverty and blessed those who responded to his needs.

In Jesus’ story, people didn’t remember helping him. They asked, “Lord, when did we see you hungry…or thirsty…or sick?” His response was clear: when we serve others, we serve him. “Just as you did it to the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”

Episcopal Relief & Development uses the MDGs as a framework to guide our efforts and help us measure the impact of our programs. Each of our focus areas and all of our programs work to achieve one or more of the MDGs. Episcopal Relief & Development invites Episcopalians to seize the opportunity to follow the example set forth in Matthew 25 — to meet the needs of the hungry, the sick and the suffering. Giving to Episcopal Relief & Development is a powerful and practical way to live out the promise made in our Baptismal Covenant to “seek and serve Christ in all persons.”

How do the MDGs work seamlessly together to touch those we seek to help? Find out in Growing Vegetables — and Profits, found in our Stories from the Field section.
