Episcopal Relief & Development Mourns the Loss of Nelson Famadas

Episcopal Relief & Development is saddened to report that Nelson Famadas, board member and cherished friend, died Monday in South Miami hospital from complications resulting from heart surgery. He was 61.
“Nelson has been a complete gift and blessing to the work of Episcopal Relief & Development,” said the Rt. Rev. Robert J. O’Neill, Chair of Episcopal Relief & Development’s Board of Directors. “His deep faith, commitment to the poor, love of the Church, generosity and good humor are lights that continue to shine in our common life and work. We are deeply grateful for his witness to the Gospel.”
In addition to his dedicated service to Episcopal Relief & Development, Famadas was deeply involved in the Episcopal Church. He sat on the vestry and sang in the choir at St. Philips Episcopal Church in Coral Gables and he participated in various activities in both the Dioceses of Southeast Florida and his native Puerto Rico.
Famadas was survived by his wife Blanca, two sons and a stepson.
On Behalf of everyone at Episcopal Relief & Development, Bishop O’Neill stated, “He, Blanca and his family are being held lovingly in our prayers.”
A Holy Eucharist of Celebration and Thanksgiving for the life of Nelson Famadas is set for Thursday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Coral Gables, FL.
