Episcopal Relief & Development Reaches Out to People Impacted by Flooding in Alaska

May 15, 2009

Recently the worst flood that Alaska has seen in decades has destroyed homes and leveled an Episcopal Church in the small village of Eagle. The extent of the damage is still unknown. At this time there have been no reports of flood-related deaths or injuries.

Episcopal Relief & Development is in close contact with the Episcopal Diocese of Alaska and will be responding to emergency needs with food, supplies, relief services and spiritual and emotional care support for flood victims.

“Our conversations thus far have focused on both physical needs and spiritual and emotional needs of those impacted in individual villages and at evacuation sites” said Abagail Nelson, Senior Vice President, Programs of Episcopal Relief & Development. “The church is particularly concerned with the needs of children at the moment.”

To support people in Alaska impacted by floods, please make a donation to Episcopal Relief & Development’s “Disaster Response Fund” online at www.er-d.org , or call 1-800-334-7626, ext. 5129.
