As Father Theodore Hesburgh said – “voting is a civic sacrament.” Here are some creative ways to help people excercise their right to vote.
Print and hand out cards with the Election Protection voter assistance hotline, 1-866-OUR VOTE, and website to find poll locations, http://www.mypollingplace.com/
On Sunday, November 5, plan a moment during the service to encourage members of the congregation to “take their souls to the polls,” perhaps during a mission moment or sharing of concerns. Prayer can be offered for faithful and careful discernment by all voters and all our elected leaders.
Arrange rides for people who need transportation to the polls.
Provide child care for parents who otherwise couldn’t get to the polls.
Provide ready-to-go breakfast and/or dinner bags for time-crunched voters who need to vote early or late in the day due to work schedules.
Support and encourage voters standing in long lines.
