Everyday Advocacy: Everybody Now -- Never too Early to Think About Voting
07/27/06 -- Mary Getz

Several weeks ago we sent out an alert to the EPPN with the same title. I just can't say it enough times. In fact, here in the office folks laugh because I am constantly reminding people that there are elections going on all the time all over the country -- not just in the big "Presidential Election Years" or just in "even-numbered years." There are local elections -- on ballot initiatives, for state legislatures, for city councils and school boards -- that are all vitally important to the communities they affect -- your communities!

Recently, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kansas, Bishop Dean Wolfe, added his voice to the call for people of faith to participate in elections: "We call all our members to prayerful consideration of our civic responsibility. We care. We vote." Click here for the full text of the letter from Bishop Wolfe; Scott Jameson Jones, Resident Bishop - The United Methodist Church, Kansas Area; and Bishop Gerald Mansholt, Central States Synod, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
