Everyday Advocacy: You never know when you'll learn something new . . .
7/25/06 - Mary Getz   Last night as I was channel surfing, an ad on VH-1 caught my attention. It was an ad for the Global Fund -- part of a new partnership between VH-1 and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and its ravaging affect worldwide.

My first thought was "Wow! How cool is that!" -- because it is so rare that you see advertisements for really great causes. My second thought is boy are they smart -- young adults can be one of the greatest forces for change and have been at the heart of the great social revolutions of this century. This is definitely the right channel for the Global Fund.

Here at the EPPN, we have been supporting the Global Fund through our advocacy efforts for many years -- and will continue to as we focus on the Millennium Development Goals through the ONE Episcopalian Campaign.

Goal 6 of the MDGs is "Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases." The Global Fund and VH-1 have great resources available on their site as well as the ads that are running on VH-1 -- my favorite so far is "Listen and Save Lives."
